A remote control helps us control a device without touching it. We use remote controls for TVs, fans, lights, speakers, and many other things.

A remote control has many buttons. Each button has a job. One button may turn the device on. Another button may change the sound or move to a different channel.

When you press a button, the remote sends a signal. Many TV remotes use invisible light called infrared light. Some newer remotes use radio signals.

The device has a receiver. The receiver reads the signal from the remote. Then the device does the correct action.

A remote control also needs power. Most remotes use a battery. If the battery is weak, the signal may not reach the device well.
