Reading Passage

A train station is a place where people get on and off trains. A person traveling on a train is a passenger. Stations help passengers find the right train and reach other towns or cities.

Many stations have a ticket counter or a machine. A ticket may be on paper or on a phone. Some tickets also come with a seat reservation.

Passengers wait on a platform. A station can have several platforms, so checking the number matters. Signs help people find their way.

A schedule shows when trains are expected to arrive and leave. A departure board shows trains that are leaving. It often gives their times, destinations, and platform numbers. It may also show delays. "On time" means the train is expected to leave at its planned time.

Passengers should check for updates because times and platforms can change. If they are unsure, they can ask a member of staff.

While waiting, people should stay behind the marked safety line. Moving trains can be dangerous near the platform edge. Passengers wait for the train to stop and the doors to open before boarding. They also watch for the gap between the platform and the train.
