Reading Passage
Many flowers smell good because their scent can help them. A flower cannot walk or call out, but it can use color and smell to get attention.
Some flowers need help from a pollinator. Bees, butterflies, and other insects can visit flowers. When they visit, they may move pollen from one flower to another. This can help flowers make seeds.
A sweet smell can attract pollinators. The smell travels through the air. An insect may follow the scent to find the flower.
Flowers may also offer nectar. Nectar is food for many insects. When an insect drinks nectar, pollen can stick to its body. Then the insect may carry pollen to another flower.
Not all flowers smell sweet to people. Some flowers have a strong or strange smell. Different smells can attract different pollinators.
A flower's scent is made by tiny natural chemicals. These chemicals can float into the air, so our nose can notice them.
